A review of the existing body of knowledge on the topic of keloids reveals that although there are numerous keloid treatments available globally, no treatment presently is specifically designed for breast surgery-induced keloids or deemed effective for keloids in general. Therefore, this research focuses on the perception of the abilities of various current keloid treatments in treating breast surgery-induced keloids. It does this by implementing a case study method containing semi-structured interviews with nine women who have breast surgery-induced keloids in North America and then a qualitative thematic analysis. All of the interviewees reported that the treatments they used resulted in no improvement for their breast surgery-induced keloids. More experimental research is needed to find if there is an effective breast surgery-induced keloid treatment already in North America, and if not, how a new treatment can be created that addresses issues with treatments available currently.
