Abstract

This academic paper studies Dancers perceptions on medical treatment for dance-related injuries. During the research process, trained dancers ages 14-18 in Broward County were surveyed, and data was collected about their age, years of dance experience, and  opinion on medical treatment, physical therapy, or home remedies as a form of treatment for dance related injuries. Furthermore, dancers were asked if they felt doctors without a dance medicine certification had a misunderstanding of dancers injuries. Once the data was collected, the perceptions of dancers' age and years of dance experience were correlated to evaluate a pattern. The gap presented in this research was the actual perception dancers had on medical treatment compared to other methods, and their opinion on doctors without a dance medicine certification. In addition, trained dancers ages 14-18 in Broward County have yet to be surveyed which was another gap filled in my research.
