Abstract

Oral cancer or mouth cancer is a type of cancer that forms in the oral cavity, resulting in the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells that damage the surrounding tissue. There are several factors that accelerate oral cancer, including human papillomavirus (HPV) infections, genetic influences, UV light and substance use. Abnormalities, namely white or reddish patches, lumps and chronic sores in the oral cavity, may be noticed by the patient. Nowadays, many means of treatment are available, including surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, and targeted drugs. However, the risk factors can affect people at different levels. The treatment will be applied individually depending on personal physical and mental health conditions. Furthermore, most of the treatments rely on modern technology, they are progressively developing to maximize their efficiency. This article aims to provide an overview of cancer, oral cavity, diagnosis, complications, medical treatments and self-prevention to avoid risk factors. Overall, the authors have analysed and reorganised so that the audience has a broader understanding of this disease.
